My newsletter on a new platform!

Hi friends, I’m so happy to introduce you to my “revamped” newsletter!

My name is Yumiko Kitazono. Many of you know me from my shop, Studio Yuming. You probably subscribed to my newsletter for my shop updates and coupons. Thank you so much for supporting my small art business. It means the world to me! In the last few years, I shifted my focus from selling my artwork at retail stores to becoming a children’s book illustrator (hopefully an author too). I’ve spent many hours taking online illustration courses to improve my skills and hone my style. I’ve also joined a couple of creative communities where we could share our work, give feedback, and be an encouragement to each other. It’s been an exciting journey that requires endurance, determination, and lots of chocolate!

These are the daily sketches I did during the summer. Each week I picked a different sport and three drawing materials. In the past, I mostly used soft drawing pencils like Tombow MONO100 or Blackwing Matte for sketching. Using versatile materials like Stabilo Woody, Stabilo Carb-Othello pastel pencils, or Caran D’Ache Luminance colored pencils felt fresh and helped me loosen up more in my sketching practices.
I’ve wanted to establish a daily sketchbook habit for a long time so finally, at the beginning of this year, I joined the #tenminuteartist sketchbook community created by wonderful children’s book illustrator,

. Having encouragement and accountability helped me to keep going. I followed along with Adam’s sketchbook prompts for a long time until I got a pretty good sketching habit so now sometimes I create my own sketchbook prompts.
